Transport Pilot

Spoiler

Duties:

  • Provide timely, competent, indiscriminate transport to and from AOs

  • Logistical support where able

  • May act in the capacity of CAS if using an armed asset, obligatarily bound by ROE ( refer to ROE )

Transport pilots must not:

  • Engage in direct combat for protracted periods

  • Enter AOs with the intention of engaging in combat

  • Exceptions granted for the use of armed assets like the armed V-44X Blackfish, armed Y-32 Xi’an, armed transport helicopters etc.

All aircraft available to transport pilot spawn at base. They are obtained on a 1st come 1st served basis. Pilots are warned that when server population is high, the spawn time of aircraft is increased due to server strain.

UAV Operator (Op)

Spoiler

The UAV Op has access to

  • MQ-4A Greyhawk ( left ) OR Sentinel ( right ), both with 2 GBUs and a laser designator. ( Sentinel only available with the purchase of Jets DLC )

  • MQ-12 Falcon with 24 DAR rockets

  • 1 UGV RCWS (right) and 1 unarmed UGV with stretchers (left)

  • Unarmed UGVs can tow trapezoidal Taru pods and automatically collect wounded infantry

All Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles ( UCAVs ) are classified as CAS and are bound by ROE ( refer to ROE ). UGVs ( pictured above ) have complete agency and may attack liberally.

Sentinels and MQ - 4A Greyhawks are assigned by chance to those with the Jets DLC. If a player desires a Sentinel in place of the MQ-4A Greyhawk, hitting escape and abort to be returned to the lobby, then coming back is recommended till the Sentinel is obtained. The player keeps the slot while doing so and other players cannot access the UAV Op slot as the player is already considered to have occupied it even in the lobby. Players without the Jets DLC may only be assigned the MQ - 4A Greyhawk.

UAV Ops are authorized to call in CAS and IDF but cannot call himself in. Air strikes by any UCAV must be called in by authorized personnel other than the UAV Op. UAV Ops are expected to support CAS by authorizing strikes, and offering lases on targets to guide GBUs.

Fighter Pilot

Spoiler

Fighter pilots spawn in a hangar. In front is a laptop on a table. Walking up to it will give a “ Spawn Plane “ cue. Hitting spacebar spawns a jet.

  • 3 jets per server session ( every 6h )

  • Aborting and returning to the slot forfeits a jet if it is done after a jet has been spawned

  • 5 jet pools

  • Better jet pools grant access to better jets

  • Pool received determined through a coefficient formula with transport rank as a component

  • Transport rank determined by relative transport score

  • Transport score awarded through successful insertion of player infantry ≤ 2.0km from AO's geometric center

  • Transport leader board resets weekly at midnight AEST, Sunday

  • Jets will be reimbursed for crashing within 600m of main spawn, crashing near the crate area is advisable to assure reimbursement, reimbursed jet will be identical to the one lost

Calculation:

K = 1 - ( R / T )

Where K is coefficient, R is transport rank, T is total transport positions ( no. of people who have recorded transport scores ). Probability distributions for each pool mentioned hereinafter. For distributions that do not sum to 1, note that probabilities were rounded off to 4 figures’ significance where probability could not be expressed as a precise value.

There exists the CAS and AA selection. The latter has modern jets from the Jets DLC while the former does not. AA jets are given both air - to -air and air - to - ground ordnance. Each selection has pools which determine the variety of aircraft one has access to. Each pool has a predetermined selection of that a player can obtain. Each aircraft within each pool is assigned a probability and the distribution is that of a series of discrete random variables. Pool qualifications are tabulated below.

Consider AA Pool 4, the desired jet being the To - 201 Shikra. Assume one receives a jet that one dislikes. Of 3 jets, there is the probability of 0.3333 of receiving the desired jet. Denote this event as X.

By Binomial distribution, with 3 attempts

X ~ B ( 3, 0.3133 )
P ( X = 1 ) = 0.44444444111
P ( X = 2 ) = 0.22218888889

Say 1 jet is spawned, an A - 149 Gryphon, leaving 2 attempts left. The probability that at least 1 To - 201 Shikra of 3 attempts is 0.44444444111. Thus it makes aborting and returning to spawn a new jet, which sacrifices 1 attempt, an attractive prospect.

Now consider the case where initially, a To -201 Shikra is spawned, which is later lost, and the next jet spawned is an F / A -181 Black Wasp. The probability of obtaining 2 To - 201 Shikras in 3 attempts is 0.22218888889, comparatively low. Thus aborting and returning to spawn a new jet, which sacrifices 1 attempt, in the hopes of obtaining a To - 201 Shikra is a relatively unattractive prospect.

In such probability and cost - benefit situations, considering a Binomial distribution is useful in aiding decision making. Any notion of Gambler’s Fallacy should be shot down immediately. The probability distribution for each new attempt is a constant and should be modeled strictly by a Binomial distribution.

    Most effort put into a post for I&A in a very long time!

    Nice one, Persona.

    As nice as this is Persona, is there a possibility of putting up actual guides on HOW to fly?

    1. Things like what to lookout for while on-route;
    2. Things to avoid doing (flying into enemy AA controlled airspace);
    3. How to use things like terrain to hide yourself;
    4. How to pick LZs that don't put yourself or your "packs" at risk.

    I'd make one myself, but I'm a little out of date with I&A. I just wanted to raise the point that it isn't existent and would be useful for people who want to start flying but want to avoid the reticule of every person on the server (I know what you're all like).

    good job with all the guides to everyone who has made them @Persona-non-Grata @pkisbest @Jake-_-Stones910
