Language and its Impact : Altis Life Staff and Players PLEASE READ

On I&A, people only really complain if they get team killed, so the occasional "check your fucking fire!" or "good one, dickhead" isn't that big of a deal and I doubt anyone will find themselves kicked or banned just for that.

Obviously, if they continue arguing, they'll be asked to settle down but not really much of a problem on I&A.

I'm under the impression that Altis Life takes this a bit more seriously?

to add on to fitz, we also have a message that when you get killed by a sniper, theres a chance that it says "Fitz got fucked up by an enemy sniper"

as long as they arent excessively swearing its not usually an issue

I mean, I barely see much swearing anyway and on the odd occasion it does appear it would be when someone blows up something of value *cough* huron while trying to lift a zamak *cough* but you would probs only get a FFS or something, not even really that much swearing. I've only ever seen 1 person use excessive swearing on Tanoa and I sent them a message asking them to tone it down and they did.

    Thanks,

    Dima

Its probably 50 percent Player and 50 percent issue.

Imagine your driving your nice car down the Street.

Little Jimmy sprays you down in a SZ.

Here comes a 2 min slinging match of who's mother has the greater sexual appetitie, or your proclivities to liking certain acts.

I guess its the playstyle, and content as much as anything. People lose their minds over gear.

On altis life when you get knocked down, it says for example "nclem got knocked the fuck down"

It's not much of a problem until it's directed at someone.

Haven't really come across swearing on Tanoa, more over I've seen swearing in the DJ channels and other public channels on TS. Had my bot playing a song and it repeatedly got "Oi DJ your playing shi@ music" "change the fuc#ing song"... Etc.

After telling him to watch his language he wanted to argue about why he can express his feelings blah blah, 20 mins later he agreed to not swear unless he's in his own private channel with his mates that agree with his choice of language.

To be honest I don't view swearing as an issue unless it is excessive or directed at someone.

    Thats my 50 cents :)

Very valid points being made. I see it a lot in the side-chat and honestly it isn't a good look for Altis Life and our other services.

So " So and so got knocked the fuck down by So and So " is not Direct? isn't simply saying no YOU can't direct certain words to others but our system we allow can ignorant?

I see "knocked the f#ck down" as an emphasis on knocked down, and it is not verbally directed at someone, therefore I do not view it as a derogatory or abusive manner to said player named in the "knock down" message.

I only bring up people on foul language as I said before, if it is directed at someone, or if it is excessive foul language. As that message is simply emphasising the "knocked the f%ck down" it is not considered derogatory or abusive compared to "(name) is a f#ckwit"

Thats my opinion on the knock down message, I appreciate criticism and feedback.

I also believe people within groups should be able to use the language they ( the group ) are fine with, for many reasons.

1st reason is that most groups are friends, and are generally not populated with people on the young side. This impacts a lot, for 1 it impacts one of the main reasonings we have language rules, that is kids, and this also comes back to why i think we should give gangs the ability to decide whether they will allow ' swearing ', it gives more freedom to groups.

2nd reason is because not everyone is seeing the 'swearing', this is not the Side Channel or global, this is Group.

Feel tree to comment on this.

I see your point but lets face it, not everyone thinks the same, and not everyone will see it like this, Lets talk about what happens to the point of seeing this message, what happens, and what after happens.

You would normally see this message in combat situations, tense situations with others, that are treated competitively ( very competitive among gangs fighting rival gangs ). so, as expected on the internet it could obviously lead to unhappy people becoming even more unhappy, which morally you want to not fuel.

Again the whole  " So and So got knocked the Fuck Down by So and So " can be viewed many ways, this is my general view at the moment.

Wasteland has its up and down days...

Its delicate thing to control, but the way I go about it currently is give a rcon warning to watch abbusive language, then kick if happens again...

maybe not all feeds, but if somethings said on either proxy or global we generally step in...

if we were to knuckle down on it, all servers should get a pop up message when you join that states main regulations, and 2 buttons ( agree to terms/ leave)

that way by accepting, then  deliberately breaking a rule, admins/ mods can ban without hesitation... Then when they complain or apply for a ban lift we can use that against em...

but still, hard thing to control...

Kinda harsh to ban people for swearing just cause they agreed to something they are already agreeing to when joining ( simply being on the server you agree to its rules and conditions ), and obviously we still have rule breakers, i'd say simply regulate Side channel and global, the rest are personal channels that i think shouldn't be controlled(unless its like some hardcore slander/racism.)

We understand you might swear in group and me personally don't police group chat unless its abusive or racist. Its the side chat and global that I myself focus on.

I have  never banned someone for swearing and usually a warning is enough in a Admin message to the server to make people stop. If that don't work they usually get the point after a personal warning or a kick.

Its not hard to replace these sorts of words. Swearing, abusing and being racist on all servers is prohibited and there's no need for it.

That's understandable mate but let's face it, this community is a mature community and so people are expected to act in a mature and sensible way, and so people should look past the emphasis on the knock down message and realise it is not verbal abuse directly from a close rival.

I do however agree that people can get in funny moods and that it happens to the best of us. Everyone is different after all.

Perhaps with more community input in this specific manner the message could be changed to a censored version of "f#ck".

Once again, constructive criticism is appreciated.

They can all be 70 years old, the rules is the rules. That's what I am curious about. And to be blunt when I look on Gametracker on all Services I have seen some cracking names. Average age on Server would be 15-16.

I have battled Neo Nazis in TS, Racists, and Rednecks, and as it says all it takes for the wicked to win is good men do nothing.

We are the good men in the equation, and it's a slippery slip if we don't agree on the standards, and follow the Heads.

Just gonna get my last words in as i have expressed my opinion enough: If you really think the Altis Community are mature, I invite you to our five-star show at Rebel 1, or a nice relaxing evening dinner at Sydney market.

Haha, well said. Your point is taken mate...

In all seriousness though, make sure you bring a carton of beer to reb 1, and a plate of cheese and crackers for our relaxing time at Sydney :p
