Hey Guys, I am looking at changing the arrangement of Teamspeak channels for the I&A section of the Strayagaming teamspeak but wanted to run my ideas by the community as well as here some of your ideas as well. Currently we have 14 public channels in the I&A teamspeak but as all of you know, the pilot channel is the only one that people tend to use. The original design of the teamspeak was to ensure coordination between pilots, infantry and armoured units but in my experience this design has never worked and everyone just ends up in the pilot channel. I believe this is because pilots need to be on teamspeak (obviously) and then other players come on the TS, see where everyone else is and want to join the party. Now this has been this way for a very long time and I dont think much can be done to change that. The only way that would change if we made the pilots channel a locked channel, and an admin would have to drag you in which would be fiddly and annoying. All I would like to change at the moment is the channels above the pilots. I want to get rid of all of them. We could then add 3 Ground Force channels, 1 side mission channel and 1 server event channel underneath the pilots channel. I think its silly that the pilots are at the bottom and its the one that gets used the most. So basically it would look like this: Invade and Annex: Pilots : Transport/Air Defence/ CAS: Waiting for pilot slot: Waiting for CAS: Ground Force: Alpha: Bravo: Charlie: Side mission: Server Event Channel: Pilots: Infantry: Now you'll notice there is a new channel in there (waiting for cas). I want to introduce this because im sick of seeing pilots waiting for cas at its spawn. From now on if an admin or moderator sees a pilot waiting for a plane to spawn for any amount of time its an instant kick from the server and a loss of your pilot slot (if someone is waiting in the queue). The way its going to work is that pilots will queue for the CAS and every time that cas is destroyed it moves to the next person in the queue. I would also like to introduce a new role for players, being the Air Traffic Controller (ATC). I dont really think we need a new slot for it in the server but i would like to get a teamspeak tag organised for it which would have to be something you would apply for on the forums. The reason I would like there to be an application process is because I want to give this person further responsibilities than the rest of the players, for instance I would like them to manage both queues (Pilot slot and CAS) which would take a load off us admins. The introduction of this would also increase coordination in the pilot channel as well as 'on topic' chat in the pilot channel which has also been a problem lately. Having someone constantly talking about the mission in the channel would keep everyone focused I think. Anyway thats about it so let me know what you think

should be right to join back now mate

Yeh the devs are looking into it but its probably a little while off yet. cheers for the suggestion

@Qeus, the developer for our I&A server has started experimenting with client side mods but as far as guns and uniform packs, those may be allowed in the future but there are no short term plans for this due to the fact that it would split the community and reduce the server population. Thanks for your suggestion Travis.

nah im fine thanks

Did some testing just now. Noticed a few things that could do with a fix. The main thing is release height. So when you release a few of the vehicles, the drop actually damages them. For some of them its no noticeable and for others it only takes two drops to completely destroy them. These tests were all conducted on flat ground (salt flats) and using the Bobcat as the towing mechanism. The list of vehicles whose release height needs to be tweaked is as follows: Wipeout Ghosthawk Hummingbird Greyhawk Assaultboat SDV Orca Hellcat Another tweak that may need to be made is when you release a vehicle on a steep incline the vehicle will release in a flat state, sometimes glitching into the ground and then catapulted back out into the air. This only happened on occassion and releasing a vehicle on an incline usually resulted in the vehicle releasing in a flat state and then conforming to the incline without any repercussions. The glitch was worse with large vehicles as more of the vehicle would glitch through the ground, for example the wipeout was really bad. Other than that, thats all i noticed after about an hour of testing but ill try and use it tonight in a gameplay platform to uncover any hidden bugs. I also tested deploying into water and found a cool little trick to get the bobcat out of the 'stuck in water' phase by using the power of the speedboat whilst towing. other than that the water deployments were smooth as butter. thanks again quik, keep up the awesome work!

Alright so I want to get the ball rolling with this one in the coming days. My idea is to have a 'lounge' channel and a 'waiting for a pilot slot' channel. This would require some rule changes. Mainly: 1. Non-pilots not allowed in the pilot channel unless with a valid reason (eg. CAS request, Transport request, ammo request etc) 2. People in the 'waiting for a pilot slot' channel will have priority over anyone else for pilot slots. What do you guys think?

When you a heavy lift pilot but bae likes jet pilots...

@Littleblacksheep use to have some scores that use to raise the bar

Yeh ill have a chat to quik about a slot reservation system. Sounds doable

The reason we havent implemented a sling loading system for heavy armor is for game balance issues. We want each aspect of I&A to be fair and balanced. Tanks can be extremely deadly and are capable of very high kill counts. In order to balance that we make it so that they have to drive it to the AOs which is too much for most people ( especially to Molos) so thats where balancing comes into play. You have to give a little before you can get a little basically. Aside from that i dont see any problem with this mod. Would have to test it thoroughly but from what ive seen it looks like it incorporates a bit more team work which is exactly what we are looking for in I&A and would love to encourage.

yeh i like your ideas there traceur. I want to start a new thing with the "pilots in waiting" where they have to put a number next their name in correspondence with the order they are in for the next pilot slot. This does however require some rule changes as it has always just been first in best dressed. For instance in the event so and so has been waiting for a pilot for 30 mins and he coordinates with a pilot to take his slot and someone beats him to the punch then i cant necessarily kick someone for that because its not part of the rules. I would like to make a rule where pilots who are already in TS have priority over those not already in TS and those who joined TS after getting the slot because its unfair for people who are already in TS. Other than that i still think the lounge would solve a lot of problems and also bringing a new rule in where if u are not a pilot you cant be in the pilot channel for more than 5 minutes or unless you have need for a pilot, the exact definition has to be narrowed down.

Welcome to Strayagaming mate, glad to hear your enjoying the Invade and Annex server. Jumping on our Teamspeak is a great way to catch up with most of the community if you havent done so already
-
Im gunna propose a solution to this problem on here (which ive already spoken to Richard about) so you guys can have a discussion about it. I think creating an I&A Lounge channel would alleviate the problems we are having witt this. This would mean that pilots could stay in their channel unhindered by noise and whenever somebody needed to talk to a pilot they could swap into the channel and communicate and then swap back to the lounge. Just a thought, what do you guys think?
-
Alright well i think we have gained enough support for the implementation of this rule. Im gunna have a chat to the I&A devs and senior strayagaming staff members and if all goes well ill start implementing and enforcing this rule at the 6:00pm Restart Tonight

Been hearing a lot of chat about this in the teamspeak over the past 3 months and i really dont see why not. UAV pilots are using the runways and airspace in conjunction with piloted aircraft which is a legitimate reason for them to be in Teamspeak. There have been numerous times where i have seen a crash on the runway between a UAV and a jet which very well could have been avoided if the UAV pilot had been on teamspeak. I feel this would also encourage greater communication between the UAV pilot and other troops especially in conjunction with the jet utilising the UAV's laser designator capabilities. I think this is a worthy topic for discussion and implementation as i dont see any real cons to enforcing this rule. Would love to hear some thoughts on this topic! Cheers, shifty

Hi Vass and thanks for your suggestion, As far as im concerned TFR is a mod that must be implemented in the server and thus you have two problems. Like Yottahertz said you open up a whole list of exploits for hackers and the like to take advantage of through the mod files and then you also lose your player base as a result of people not having/not willing to get the mod. Furthermore we do not have the numbers for another I&A server nor are we interested in getting one at this point due to a number of reasons, cheers shifty
