Operation Desert Fox

Operation Desert Fox is the idea of the first campaign of a Arma Realism unit I've been thinking about. I've looked around and there aren't many units who take younger players and who play at earlier hours that fit mine. This opens a possibility for Straya to open floodgates for new people. Also, this can allow people to make new friendships and with other players, or even as a way to just have fun.

The concept of Realism is sometimes frowned upon because of how much dedication and seriousness it can require. Operation Desert Fox and other campaigns would be "casual realism". Some servers have strict chain of command, which isn't the best thing for simple gaming. If the idea of a realism unit got a green light. the idea of Chain of command would be simplified down, with basic structure, while providing a realistic feeling to the actual game play.

This post is to see if people are curious about the idea. While we had another realism unit before, they "didn't pay the bills" and tried to distance themselves from the Straya brand. If there is a show of interest for this, i would begin explaining more details in full.

In short, O.P.D.F would be able to take 38 players, which will be split into squads, currently, the idea of a pilot is unknown, due to the starting location of O.P.D.F, this may change when the campaign hits the later game part, however, for the mean time, pilots will be a no-go. Mods will be required, the amount is still being decided, but currently i believe about 10-13 mods are being used. And mission makers would be required (since i can't 3den for sh*t).

I know Straya did have a realism unit at one stage but I'm not sure what happened to it. Perhaps someone who knows can shed some light?

I can shed some light, We have had 2 realism units, SOTG and ASF/SASR (something like that). They are always up for the realism to make there own missions and code, we are already flat out making other stuff. All it does is drag all the players off the I&A server. The end result the realism unit go off and try to make there own community as a realism. but most the time they fail as its hard to find new players as a realism only community.

The last group messed me around so this isn't going to be an option anymore. You've jumped on board to late with this.

the closest thing you're gonna get is doing side missions on I&A

TBH in my opinion I&A more than meets the demands of the community with that aspect? Feel free to correct me :)

its not super realism like hes probably wanting. he most likely wants things like F18's modern tanks, ACE medical menu so you bleed from different limbs an all. new maps an all. task force radio. thing we cant really add to the server without dividing the playerbase

More or less. The idea was for it to be a full co-op campaign that would happen every week for main ops, and a day in the week for training. Weekend missions would have a full story line behind it, and everything that happens from the missions would affect how the story line goes E.G: X found some Intel, next mission we would have a secondary objective, or Y found Intel, and we are able to prevent a mortar strike from happening. Really, there would only one campaign, 2-3 if support was great. However, as B33F Said, it would drag people off I&A and the last two units were a fail, and i can understand his point.
