Ever wanted to show a fancy squad patch on your vehicle or gear at all times? Want to represent a group without changing your profile name constantly? This is what the Squad.xml is for. Where once this was complicated, it has been made simple by the awesome Arma community with hosters like https://armasquads.com/. This will take you 5 minutes. Don't get scared, this is dumbshit easy. Visit https://armasquads.com/ and register an account Go to menu -> squads Create a squad. The TAG is what shows up at the end of your name. Ex, "Kalthramis[AI]" Upload an image. It must be any multiple of 16, ex 16x16 or 32x32. For the best quality, just use the largest size; 256x256. Return to the squad page, and click "members" -> "add new members" Go into Arma's main menu, config, profile. Copy your playerID. Paste this ID into the correct line for "add new members." Fill out the rest of the information as you see fit. When you are finished, return to the squad page, copy the large URL for the squad. Return to Arma's profile in-game. Paste the large url into the appropriate line. Ta da! Any online server will now utilize your squad TAG and image. Be aware that everyone can see this, so if you use something appropriate, it could get you banned from the server - or worse, BattleEye banned if you are reported to Bohemia. Have fun!

But that'd require a Zeus to actually be on I had thought I'd replied to this thread, but I fully endorse it. Defends are fun, and being able to actually prep for one would be even more fun. Encouraging more FOB use isn't a bad thing at all, either.

To get some activity stirring and possibly dig up some idea gems, let's say you theoretically get to add, change, and overhaul Invade and Annex however you want. Imagine you have an army of Quicksilvers with too much spare time, and you're in charge. What would you change? What would you add, or remove? What features, missions, and ideas would you want in your version of I&A?
  5. Kalthramis

There's a few issues with this. You aren't wrong, it would be cool, but there are some fences that would have to be climbed. Keep in mind I am not part of the development, or even the moderator staff. Just another user. First up, Straya is technically a monetized server. This means that every mod put on the server needs the permission of the creator for it to be legally allowed, as per Bohemia's terms of service. Second, although I LOVE TRYK, it is not officially on the steam workshop. A mod that isn't on the workshop is a mod not worth having, as it isn't hooked up to the launcher, and less people are likely to get it. Thirdly, more servers means more cash. It costs $120 Aussie dollars to run the I&A server, and although we do always hit the mark and then some, tossing up another server (which would have a smaller playerbase, and need a larger moderator team) could get expensive quickly. While I do dream of mods on I&A and/or more servers, these are the current hurdles.
  6. Kalthramis

Ye, even 60 nets some pretty big lag. More servers could be an option, but that's also more cash.

Speaking of donator benefits, how 'bout dem skinz?

I'd be a big fan if there were multiple UAV slots, ex one is combat-focused with a Falcon, and the other is support focused with Darters and ammo UGVs/UAVs or if the UAV operator could pick a few to use. Ex., with 3 slots total; focus on air superiority with the Falcon (taking up all 3 slots), armed UGV when there's no allied armor (2 slots), unarmed UGV when just support is needed (1), UAVs (1), darters being free.
  9. Kalthramis

Could we get custom difficulty flipped on for the server? I'm not a big fan of group indicators, crosshairs, "haxor enemy detector", and so on. Ruins mah imershun, and since this is PvE, shouldn't cause any balancing issues.

  11. Kalthramis

This, yeah. If it's possible, it may be better to have more FOBs that change locations more often, but are easier to set up, than the current versions, which are generally untouched. Expanding the rule set for the hummingbird to "Fly to FOB or to side mission" could help a little with activity, as well as adding arsenal to the FOBs and more respawns (or even infinite respawns) when taking a medical truck/lift there. Though I'm not a fan of "ez pz" content, I&A is ez pz, and it would get people into the action quicker.
  12. Kalthramis

I did make a basic "FOB builder" Zeus framework that was suppose to do just that. Could only spend X-resources on defenses and could only build them around a truck. I had intended it to be a unique slot ala UAV Operator; someone could drive a 'construction truck' to an AO, build a small base, then use it. Could even place static defenses. But I heard Quicksilver wants to make static deployable small FOBs one day, so I didn't finish it. (Probably same concept, just using scroll wheel to pick a prebuilt small base rather than building one in Zeus.)
  13. Kalthramis

Medics are meant to be spread out between groups, rather than clumped together. This also isn't much of an RP server. Reviving an average soldier should be the same priority as reviving a medic, as well; everyone wants to be able to play the game. This would cause medics to be prioritized, which could just lead to hurt buttholes. It would also encourage medic clumping, which isn't a good idea in I&A.
  14. Kalthramis

@InfamousNova eh it's just for fun and imagining. Haven't got into a milism unit because they require too much time and dedication, and i've yet to find one with a modpack that doesn't crash the game
  15. Kalthramis

yeah whitelisted engineer would be rad, since theyre always taken by guys in sniper gear. Limiting AI to 2 per group would fix the issue of someone taking all of them.
  16. Kalthramis

More specifically, do you mean enemy AI in the AO, allied AO at base that are recruitable, for pilots, for infantry, what specifically do you mean when some join you and there's no one else in your group? This lacks and details to be considered or discussed. What I can say in general about adding more AI (bear in mind I am not a server developer or even staff), is more AI means more server load which means lower frames and more lag. Adding more isn't something that can be done liberally.
  17. /Title Most everyone has a standard kit they roll with, with some variation for specific classes. What is yours, and why? Mine is several FAKs, 2 RGO grenades, white smoke, 2 blue chems, .45 Pistol, large vest (not special vest), enhanced combat helmet. I use stamina, which influences my gear. I always seem to get hit several times in an AO, which is why one FAK isnt enough. RGOs are superior imo for their blast radius, and blue chems cuz blufor and greens are nasty looking. Smoke is never not useful, the NATO .45 pistol kicks ass in a few shots without the zubyr's weight, and the large vest for the extra armor without the weight. Also looks nice. The enhanced helmet is noteworthy as it is one of the few helmets that can take 2, occasionally even 3 bullets without you dropping. Nearly all other helms do not provide enough armor to live through even one shot to the head, excluding long distance shots and ricochet.
  18. Kalthramis

Yeah. It's difficult enough maintaining the Waiting for Slot rule. If it's a big problem for you, direct connect to the server. You'll be one of the first on when it comes back up. And I have a US connection with 350+ping.

Vehicle loading doesn't seem to be in the showoff build, or I can't figure it out. But there's a lot of neat toys we're going to get to play with. New vehicle skins, weapons, mechanics. I'm hoping there'll be an I&A Tanoa server at some point. Two big things that I, personally, feel need to come to the server, is keeping backpacks while skydiving and vehicle selecting. With the C-130 esc plane coming in 3 variants, one carrying 32 troops, airfields will become more useful, as will skydiving. Currently, nobody does this on I&A, because why dive when you'll lose your pack with your toolbox, explosives, medkit, etc? With the new planes being different variants, and there being a really neat UAV Attack Chopper, I also feel we're in dire need of vehicle selecting. There's a bunch of new air toys coming that we'll need to cycle through (c-130 infantry, or c-130 vehicle?) and pilots will have to be able to pick something specific for the scenario. (Flipping the huron over and over, hoping to get the right spawn, is messy). It's also been a frequently requested feature in TS, and once we get more server skins, it'll be even more useful. Say I paid $100 to support the server, and I get my own custom skin, but I want a Hellcat skin, which rarely ever spawns. Problematic, right? Another thing to look at is possibly replacing all AAF units with the new Bandit units. Lot of people like the AAF gear, and if a pilot has an AAF skin on, might cut down on friendly fire. And the CSAT special operatives with anti-thermals are, of course, a given. One or two of those squads walking around an AO would be sweet. There's a lot of stuff to consider. Honestly probably needs its own thread.
  20. Kalthramis

Depends on how good it ends up being. If it ends up being about as good, might as well disable quacktac, or make it an optional mod, to save on server scripts

Source: https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/187396-arma-3-apex-news-and-speculations/page-88#entry3037483 "Been looking through the XML posted here earlier -- it's a little unorganised, but I think I extracted anything of relevance below. Lots of exciting new features to be added Vehicles: The KH-3A Fenghuang is an unmanned aerial drone based on a Chinese design. The UAV adopts the unusual canard layout and is propelled by a pusher engine. This multipurpose drone is equipped with modern tracking and tracing systems, countermeasures and also carries four air-to-ground laser guided missiles. Personal watercraft (PWC) of the sit-down type. This small-hulled craft driven by a jet-propulsion system offers seats for 3 people and is easy to mount or dismount on the water thanks to the open stern construction. The powerful engine and great maneuverability makes this craft truly fun to ride. And of course it is a small and useful water transport vehicle for military use as well. This autonomous/remotely controlled helicopter drone is mainly used as close air support and thanks to the unmanned construction can be deployed in the most dangerous zones. The Falcon is equipped with a laser designator and can therefore handle surveillance, reconnaissance and target designation tasks. Its greatest strength, however, lies in armament. It carries two rocket pods, each with 12 unguided rockets and six Scalpel air-to-ground missiles. The MQ-12 Falcon can also use countermeasures for self-defense. Developed as a 21st century replacement for aging C-130 based gunships and transport aircraft. Its third-generation tilt-rotor VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) technology allows this long endurance aircraft to conveniently utilize a wide range of airfields and runways which greatly improves the military logistics. It also provides unparalleled maneuverability in its heavily armed gunship variant which has the unique ability to perform either pylon turns or merely hover in place during the ground attack. The huge internal storage allows for transportation of vehicles up to the size and weight of the AMV-7 Marshall APC in the vehicle transport variant or up to 32 fully armed soldiers with supplies in the infantry transport variant. The storage space of the gunship variant is fully occupied by automated weapon stations and carried ammunition. By far the largest CSAT joint development project to date was long troubled by the conflicting requirements of the participating armies who demanded an aircraft with VTOL capabilities. The planned budget was vastly exceeded several times and development was years behind schedule. The program eventually became one of the most expensive in military procurement history and despite a great deal of information remains classified and is often compared to the older F-35 program. The final solution was based upon the most promising prototype designed in Xi'an which was able to meet most of the requirements with satisfactory results. High running and maintenance costs remains a huge issue that plagues the reputation of the otherwise extremely progressive aircraft with many unique features and top-notch bleeding-edge technologies. The MB 4WD is a modern four-wheel drive off-road vehicle with a distinctive construction, which could be tracked up to World War II. The vehicle was produced in the US and exists in a number of different editions. Thanks to the powerful engine, durable chassis and great maneuverability, this vehicle can handle all levels of difficult terrains from dry deserts to humid jungles or artic wastelands. An agile (maximum speed 160 km/h) light protected vehicle for 5-6 soldiers – depending on the configuration. The Qilin offers safe and fast operating speeds with superior levels of mobility and maneuverability. It is highly adaptable to severe, rugged and restrictive terrains while providing off-road, cross-country mobility under all types of weather conditions. The vehicle was produced in China with Russian cooperation, so some minor influence from Ifrit MRAP can be seen in Qilin’s design. The Qilin is a highly customizable platform which can be fitted according to the mission. CSAT Pacific forces primarily use the unarmed variant and the armed variant fitted with a 6.5 mm minigun. Caesar BTT is a single-engine, fixed-gear, low-wing general aviation aircraft built from composite materials. The Caesar BTT is one of the fastest fixed-gear, single-engined piston aircraft, reaching a speed of 235 knots (435 km/h) true air speed at 25,000 feet (7,600 m). It is used by civilians and smaller shipping companies all around the world. The Prowler is a light strike vehicle (LSV) which means it is agile and lightly armored. It uses speed, maneuverability and off-road mobility to avoid major threats. Another benefit is that the Prowler is light enough to be transported by medium helicopters such as UH-80 Ghost Hawk. This is in contrast to the heavy MRAP vehicles which are harder to transport to the battlefield. Two configurations of Prowler exist. The armed variant of Prowler is equipped with two machine guns. The front seated position carries a .338 SPMG medium machine gun. The top turret is equipped with a .50 cal heavy machine gun. With this arsenal, Prowler is ideal for quick hit and run missions. The unarmed variant is stripped of all guns, but the back part of the vehicle is open and there are reserve seats for two additional soldiers. The rigid-hulled inflatable boat, (RHIB) is a light-weight but high-performance and high-capacity boat constructed with a solid, shaped hull and flexible tubes at the gunwale. The boat can fit 7 passengers and a driver. RHIB can be used for multiple tasks. It can be a simple transport boat with some countries deploying them for coast guarding. This is in contrast to criminals on Tanoa who uses RHIBs as a fast and small smuggling boat. --------------------------------------------------- Factions: Gendarmerie CTRG NATO Paramilitary Bandit Syndikat CSAT Viper team --------------------------------------------------- Features Targeting Improvements commanding visualizations, crew communication, weapon systems and indicators, virtual targeting pods Weapon Switching on-the-move, mappable actions, action menu streamlining updated 2D and 3D visualization, improved diary UX, better map interaction useful presets, consolidated options, explanatory texts and images Vehicle-in-vehicle Transport Environmental Audio extended ambient configuration, positional ambient sounds overhauled lighting configuration, water reflections, fog improvements Path Following more intelligent, precise and responsive AI vehicle driving capabilities Props Tanoa environment decorations and special field equipment CSAT Pacific Forces suitably camouflaged assets for the primary armed forces CSAT Special Forces operators equipped with modern weaponry, thermal-masking camouflage, new Night Vision Goggles, and other unique gear Gendarmerie Faction the local Tanoa law enforcement agency Syndikat Faction: a criminal organisation composed of armed thugs and ex-paramilitaries Gear: new clothes, uniforms, backpacks, headgear, NVGs, and more Weapons: AKS-74U 5.45 mm Assault Rifle, AKM 7.62 mm Assault Rifle, AK-12 7.62 mm Assault Rifle, RPG-7 Launcher, PM 9 mm Pistol, SPAR-16/S/17 Assault Rifles, CAR-95 5.8 mm Assault Rifle, CAR-95-1 5.8 mm Light Support Weapon, LIM-85 5.56 mm Light Machine Gun, Type 115 6.5 mm / .50 cal Assault Rifle, Protector 9 mm Sub-Machine Gun, CMR-76 6.5 mm Designated Marksman Rifle, ERCO Optics Vehicles: V-44 X Blackfish VTOL, Y-32 Xi'an VTOL, Prowler LSV, Qilin LSV, KH-3A Fenghuang Drone, MQ-12 Falcon Drone, Caesar BTT Propellor Airplane, MB 4WD Offroad Car, RHIB Boat, Water Scooter Apex Protocol: a 1-4 player co-op campaign with ties to "The East Wind" Much like our previous DLC releases, this expansion features a premium content pack and is supported by a free platform update. Next generation combined helmet developed in China for special military operatives. Shields physical heat and renders the soldier invisible to Thermal Imaging if used with compatible uniform. This helmet combines a protective function with the functionality other soldiers seek via additional equipment, such as night vision. Next generation uniform developed in China to give the operator an edge in combat thanks to its shielding of body heat. If combined with a compatible helmet, the soldier becomes virtually undetectable for thermal imaging technology. Also features basic protection as opposed to usual uniforms but loses some capacity as a result. New generation protective headgear designed originally for the U.S. Army by an external company. A combination of clothes used by local criminals on Tanoa and the surrounding islands. They usually use functional civilian clothes due to low resources and/or connections to obtain better equipment. The PM is a Russian semi-automatic pistol. It became the Soviet Union's standard military and police side arm in 1951 and has been broadly used ever since in post-Soviet countries and places where black market reached from those countries. It is based on the German wartime design utilizing the 9x18 mm cartridge designed by B.V. Semin in 1946. For simplicity and economy, the PM was of straight blowback operation, with the 9x18 mm cartridge being the most powerful cartridge it could safely and practically fire. German wartime forces had rejected this pistol design some years before because of its poor accuracy. Although the nominal calibre was 9.0 mm, the actual bullet was 9.22 mm in diameter, since caliber in Russia is measured between the grooves and not the lands of the rifling. Being shorter and wider, the 9 mm cartridge is thus incompatible with pistols chambered for 9x19 mm cartridges and vice-versa. The SPAR-17 designated marksman rifle is in many ways similar to the SPAR-16. The main difference is the chambering to 7.62 mm which also means a longer, thicker barrel and more weight. Thanks to the more powerful ammunition, the SPAR-17 is most suitable for ranges from 600 to 800 meters. The rifle offers a single and full auto mode and is, like the SPAR-16, compatible with a large number of accessories. The SPAR-16 is a standard issue assault rifle of CTRG units in Pacific, chambered for 5.56 mm ammunition. The gun is a reliable rifle compatible with a large number of accessories. Multiple variants of this rifle exist, each suitable for a different role. The SPAR-16 GL is equipped with an underslung grenade launcher, the SPAR-16S with its thicker barrel and drum magazine works as a light support weapon. A bullpup style assault rifle used by CSAT Pacific forces. It works as a common platform for different weapon types: a standard rifle, GL variant with attached grenade launcher and a light support version with a longer barrel and drum magazine. The CAR-95 uses polymer materials in its construction and fires 5.8x42 mm small-caliber, high-velocity bullets. The AKS-74U was created as an answer for the Soviet need for a fully automatic carbine. The gun is basically a shortened AK-74, which enabled significant production savings. Like the AK-74, this variant is also chambered in 5.45x39 mm, but its compact dimensions make it intended for special forces, vehicle crews, police patrols, etc. However, the lower muzzle velocity makes the AKS-74U effective up to only around 400 meters.. The AKM gas operated assault rifle with a rotating bolt is a modernized version of the old AK-47. Despite the later introduction of the AK-74, it has remained in use in many countries all over the world with more than 10 million units built. Its improvements over the AK-47 made mass manufacturing simpler, but also decreased the weight and increased accuracy of the weapon. At the same time, the gun's exceptional wear and corrosion resistance has been preserved. The AK-12 is a modern assault rifle designed to replace the legendary AK-74 as general issue for the Russian Army. The weapon introduces many improvements over its predecessors: better recoil control, versions suitable for various ammunition, compatibility with several underslung grenade launchers, accessory rails, or better ergonomics. This particular version is chambered in 7.62x39 mm, and thus suited for longer-distance engagements. The Type 115 is a modern multi weapon. It consists of two separate weapons combined into a single unit: a lower semi auto rifle chambered to fire .50 rounds and an upper automatic/semi auto rifle chambered in 6.5 mm. The gun can be modified by attachments to fulfill various roles in battle. Its versatility turns every soldier into a universal threat against both infantry and armored targets. Designated marksman rifle of an Eastern origin. It is a gas operated, semiautomatic rifle of a bullpup construction. The housing is made from polymer. The rifle is chambered in 6.5 mm and therefore is most suited to ranges from 500 to 700 meters. The CMR-76 is missing both the sides and the bottom rails but is by default equipped with a bipod. The RPG-7 is a portable, reusable, unguided, shoulder-launched, anti-tank, rocket-propelled grenade launcher. The ruggedness, simplicity, low cost and effectiveness of the RPG-7 has made it the most widely used anti-armor weapon in the world. Currently, around 40 countries use the weapon and it is manufactured in several variants by nine countries. It is popular with irregular and guerrilla forces. The RPG has been used in almost all conflicts across all continents since the mid-1960s, from the Vietnam War to the early recent conflicts in the Pacific area. The light infantry machine gun 85 is an iteration of a special purpose weapon. Combining a high fire-rate and relatively easy maintenance with high reliability, it was adopted by several armies around the world. It features standard accessory rails and 200-round box 5.56x45 mm magazines. Its weight is 7.1 kilograms which is less than its predecessors. A lightweight, air-cooled, selective fire, delayed blowback operated submachine gun with a roller-delayed bolt. The compact size, accuracy and high rate of fire of the Protector are highly regarded and the gun is used in many variants by numerous military, law enforcement, intelligence and security organizations all around the world. Loading screens... The mining and heavy ship industry have already devastated many areas of the Tanoan paradise archipelago. During the hottest summers, there are many occurrences of native men missing in the jungle. Local tribes claim that huge reptilian creatures can be encountered at the foot of the volcano. The native people have turned many parts of the wild jungle into fertile fields and plantations. Around the Tanoa archipelago, the native people worship a god of fertility and festivity called Darkon. The name of the archipelago comes from the Fijian word tanoa which means a bowl (the main island resembles a large bowl). Once upon a time, there was a living, fire-breathing volcano..."

The P90 official mod was added to the server during non-peak hours, right? I haven't been able to use it yet.

Relating the cargo system, could the arsenal truck/crates be defaulty filled with a bunch of NATO equipment? That way, if we're feeling lazy, we can just take that to the HQ and it'll be worth more than the cargo net, but if we want to add anything specific, we still can but still bring gear to benefit others.
  24. Kalthramis

@InfamousNova It shouldn't require ACE. Could be done pretty easily if you skipped out on the visuals; just a matter of storing the backpack and it's contents locally, then adding it to the player when they're at 0 elevations. @Qeus could we do this? I'm in the same boat of "Paradrops are cool, but without a backpack it nullifies them. Can't have a medic, engineer, demo expert, etc."
