If this isn't being addressed, then honestly what is there to gain from the cop force, forcing you to stay at a rank because "reasons". This is one of the reasons that I stop playing with the cop force as a general whole, over the past few months, because players were getting warnings and demotions without being told the reason.

Yup I played civ/Rebel. I never have been cross fired. Also I am not saying that promotions should ONLY be based on time. I am saying it should be time and "being exceptional at doing what they do" and sometimes effort is worth something as well. See and that's what all the higher ups hide behind though? Instead of fixing the problem. In my opinion there was no reason for me to be stuck at snr. Constable but in the higher ups mind there is a reason. But how in the hell is the person going to know what they are doing wrong or the "reason" why they are stuck there?

In regards to the situation with promotions on Cop I found myself really hating Cop because I felt like there was no sense of mateship like there should be. Of course no one has to be friends with everyone but it seems like everyone will do anything if they think it means that command might like them more, yes everyone wants to go up the ranks but for an officer to rank up it shouldn't be "Oh let me just have a go at everyone that breaks a minor protocol so command thinks im a cool kiddo" because that is just trash. Yes if someone is being a dickhead fair enough but some cases you get taken to command because you're wearing a hat or a pair of glasses a civ gave you. In in regards to the situation with civ I understand that cops sometimes get trigger happy but it is stressful when you're RPing with someone and there are 7 civs with masks running around you. Not to say that it's ok but like cops like civs both parties have to understand each other's situations.

so for those who don`t know their is a new command surrender system that requires you to look at them and wait for a bar at the bottom right of your screen. i think that this new system really adds a challenge to the system but i find it takes a little to long, for instance at a side mission i rushed a house and was trying to capture a guy he stood still but i was standing right next to him for a good 2 seconds , and by the timer reached just over half way it was to late he turned around and shot me in the face, so if anything just make the timer faster maybe a second, other than that i think the new system is amazing

@Chris J. we use time as a reference as to who we are looking at for promotions, and yes it plays some part but in no way affects the final decision.

Just play as a civ in sydney and you'll find that you get killed for association or being in the area, even if you're unarmed. That's not crossfire, that's just being trigger happy. If promotions were based on time instead of merit, you'd have more people ranked Sergeant and above being unqualified for their position. You were probably stuck at Senior Constable for a reason.

Everyone makes it seem like this ^^^ when its really not... You will never shoot and kill someone who you didn't think was involved? Whether this be the fact they have a gun out or if they are doing things in a hostile zone to assist in the combat. Cops usually crossfire people who get in the way said as so: Every-time the "well you could have used knockdowns" card. I tell them this; "This is a roleplay server, where I value my life and roleplay by means necessary that would be realistic in the real world. Meaning I will shoot and kill a guy with a pistol because he can kill me and I aint going to send him to jail for 'attempted manslaughter'." This in my opinion leads to corruption and easy glitches, exploits and capabilities for the restrained subject to get away. Often times when they "get away" its not done by the player himself... It is done by other players who were never involved, don't know who the guy is and why they help him. Corruption, in my opinion the only reason for you to tase someone who is shooting at you is in order for you to get that arrest money or satisfaction of ****ing someone's day with a 20 min jail. Bottom line is that if you don't want to get cross fired you just don't pull a gun or do things you shouldn't be doing in a active combat zone? This is the only part I wanted to pluck at a little... But I personally don't find that promotions should be deserved only for "being exceptional at doing what they do" but time is important as it shows dedication. Dedication + Effort = "being exceptional at doing what they do." I don't want to go too much into my own time on the server but for example I have been here 7 months? I believe for what 5-6 of those months I stayed as a cop. After making 1 or 2 mess-ups I was demoted. Lost hope, because I had spent the previous 3 months being a snr. constable receiving no promotions. Just to get demoted back to constable. I was angry. Went to rebel. For example real quick and I want to make it short because I know he's community banned but the fact of the matter is @FrankNZ good cop, was "being exceptional at doing what they do" received promotions instantly to SGT? I think? He didn't stay long? Some could say he wasn't "dedicated" but it just proves that dedication does matter. Time being a cop does matter and if we wanted to say that time didn't matter then that would make the commissioner's time as a commissioner worthless? Only the stuff he did was "being exceptional at doing what they do."

And it's stressful as a civ RPing when you have 10 cops that can kill you and claim crossfire as well as the other 7 civs with masks running around with a gun hidden somewhere. Civs have it harder than cops, don't make excuses.

Most civs wont complain if they get accidentally knocked down, when it happens I apologise to the civ and it's over and done with. players DO complain when they got shot by a cop for no reason, when talking about crossfire I thought it was already assumed we were talking about a situation where lethal force had been already legitimately reached.

Also, to address this If I hear gunfire, I'm going to run, as I have one life and If i die, that's it. In AL - ooh gunfire, doesn't matter if I die, I can respawn and be back here in 5 minutes, so gunfire = run towards it. The crossfire exemption is good because we get idiots who run into firefights and it becomes genuinely difficult to distinguish who is a combatant and who isn't.

Thanks @Red , @James32 and everyone for your responses. Good too see others interested in Wasteland becoming great again. Here's suggestion/changelog that me and a few WL veterans created: -Opfor/Blufor 1+- difference. Prevents team stacking and group farming at 2am. Groups can go indie if they cant join main teams. - Major armed drone nerf. Lower ordance/flares and higher price. Big step to reduce toxic gameplay. -Armed drones only purchasable at main airfield. Realign drone use as infantry support & reconnaissance. People dc due to getting killed by skalpel missles from invisible enemies. -Remove Cape Cod. -Original WL stratis map. Low building/object count and less clutter to improve performance/fps. Player built structures are main focus. -Rearm tank (bobcat) needs nerf. Slower rearm speed or higher price. -Vehicle storage nerf. introduce vehicle class cooldown, which slows retrieval and storing. Preventing tank spam & toxic mission camping. -Spawn beacon nerf. Cannot be placed within 300-500m of another friendly beacon. -A.I jet/heli buff. Increase their intelligence/difficulty to naturally remove player tanks and drones. -Mission Reward nerf. lower reward by 25-50% to counter money farming. -Money Wipes within 2-3 month interval -Spread mission spawns and key locations down south of map.

Crossfire should only be a valid excuse when you shoot someone while attempting to shoot the intended target and that may be due to poor aim or recoil. It shouldn't be used an excuse when you shoot at someone thinking they're the target. You wouldn't have problems with crossfire if cops used knockdowns like they should be doing.

The problem with 'crossfire' and cops is generally when in a situation, if a random civ strays into it they're most likely dead, as someone will make a miscommunication or just kill them on accident and mark it as crossfire - which isn't very good looking on the cops. Its entirely a matter of communication.
